Quick facts before booking
Best rooms
Ask for runway-view rooms in the Hughes Wing, higher floors (6+). North-facing rooms look straight onto 4L/22R and 4R/22L movements.
Rooftop pool deck
Open to hotel guests; great angle for 13L/31R and taxi shots. Bring a longer lens (200–400 mm) for tight frames.
Light & time
Morning light favours 4L/4R arrivals, golden hour looks fantastic on departures from 31L/31R.
Audio & flight tracking
Listen to LiveATC (JFK tower/ground) and watch Flightradar24 or ADS-B Exchange to anticipate movements.
Shooting spots
Angles and what you can capture from each place.
Hughes Wing rooms
Wide window frontage, tripod-friendly with curtains open. Heat haze appears on hot summer middays – shoot mornings and evenings for crisp images.
Rooftop deck
Higher vantage point for line-up and rotation shots. Mind pool reflections – a polariser helps. Staff are used to guests with cameras; be respectful of other visitors.
Connie bar
Great for atmosphere photos of the Lockheed Constellation itself. Not ideal for runway shots, but a must at night.
Ready for JFK spotting?
Check rates, pick a runway-view room and pack a mid-telephoto lens – you cannot sleep closer to the action at JFK.
